Al Ahly advances to AFIL semi-finals on away goals

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have secured their place in the inaugural African Football League (AFIL) semi-finals. They achieved this despite a 1-1 draw at home against Simba SC, advancing on away goals. The initial leg ended 2-2 in Tanzania, but Al Ahly's crucial away goals made the difference over the two legs.
 
Simba managed to take the lead on Tuesday with a well-composed second-half finish by Sadio Kanoute, reigniting their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals. However, Al Ahly exhibited resilience and quickly equalized through Mahmoud Abdelmonem Kharaba, securing an aggregate victory.
 
Despite Simba's commendable debut in the AFIL, they were eliminated at the quarter-final stage. In contrast, Al Ahly, African heavyweights with 11 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League titles, are now one step closer to becoming the first-ever champions of this groundbreaking tournament.
