It appears that Akwa United FC will regain their momentum with their return to the iconic Goodwill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Their first match after the approval of their relocation by the Management of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) resulted in a 3-1 victory over the visiting defending champions, Enyimba International FC.
Akwa United FC had been hosting their home games at Eket Stadium following a request to use the stadium for their home matches made by the club's management. However, their performance at Eket Stadium was not impressive, with only five wins in 20 matches. Although the reason for the decision to relocate to Godswill Akpabio Stadium was not disclosed, the move proved justified as they secured a convincing 3-1 victory over the defending champions, Enyimba International FC.
In the 6th minute of play, David Phillips of Akwa United opened the scoring, putting his side 1-0 ahead, while Sani Suleiman added the second goal in the 60th minute.
Enyimba International FC's prolific striker, Mbaoma Chijioke, scored from the spot in the 73rd minute, bringing the score to 2-1.
Suleiman completed his brace in the additional four minutes of stoppage time, securing the final score at 3-1.
