Chuba Akpom has confirmed that he will not be leaving Ajax Amsterdam during the summer transfer window. Despite the transfer window closing in the Netherlands on September 2, other markets in Turkey, Belgium, and Qatar remain open for business.
Speculation had arisen regarding Akpom's potential departure from Ajax Amsterdam on the deadline day of the top five European leagues, following the acquisition of Dutch international striker Wout Weghorst from Burnley. However, despite interest from Nottingham Forest and VfB Stuttgart, neither club made an official bid for the forward.
Akpom will reassess his situation when the transfer window reopens in January 2025. For now, he remains focused on his role at Ajax Amsterdam and will continue to contribute to the team's efforts.
Ajax's manager, Francesco Farioli, will need to determine his first-choice striker for the initial part of the season. Akpom faces competition from two other Dutch internationals, and Farioli may also consider adjusting his formation to accommodate all key players.
In the current season, Akpom has seen increased playing time, with six starts out of eight possible matches. This contrasts with the previous season, where he started eleven times in total.
Since joining Ajax from Middlesbrough, Akpom has made 44 appearances and has been involved in 21 goals, scoring 18 and providing 3 assists. His contributions have been significant in strengthening Ajax's attacking options.
Akpom's performance and commitment to Ajax will be crucial as he continues to compete for a regular starting position and contribute to the team's success throughout the season.
