Akpom refutes demanding huge wages for Middlesbrough
Posted : 02 August 2023
Arsenal academy graduate Chuba Akpom has made it clear that he is not seeking exorbitant wages to extend his contract with Middlesbrough in the Championship.
Speculation about Akpom's future at Middlesbrough has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
His exceptional performances have drawn attention from multiple clubs in England and abroad, especially after a remarkable season where he earned several individual accolades, including the Championship Player of the Season at the EFL awards and a spot in the division's Team of the Season.
He also secured Boro's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year titles and clinched the Championship Golden Boot with an impressive tally of 28 goals in 38 appearances in the English second-tier league.
Despite Middlesbrough's keenness to secure Akpom's services for the long term, negotiations between the club and the player's agent have been ongoing without reaching an agreement yet.
There were claims on social media that Akpom and his agent were demanding wages beyond what the club would be willing to pay, but Akpom himself has disputed this, stating that such reports are "not true."
With Akpom's denial, the situation remains open, and Middlesbrough will continue their efforts to secure his future at the club amidst the interest from other potential suitors.
