Adrian Akande, a former invitee of the 2019 Golden Eaglets, has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award in recognition of his stellar performances in April.
Throughout the month, Akande showcased his creative abilities by providing three assists in four Premier League 2 matches for Reading, aiding the team in maintaining an unbeaten record with two wins and two draws.
His contributions included assists in matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove, and Manchester City, all of which he started for Reading.
Competing for the award alongside Akande are talented youngsters from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea, including Amario Cozier-Duberry, Rio Kyerematen, Will Lankshear, and Dujuan Richards.
Other contenders for the prestigious monthly accolade include Jack Thompson and Aaron Bott from Nottingham Forest, as well as Alfie Harrison from Newcastle United.
This season, Akande has impressed in the Premier League 2, tallying ten goal involvements—three goals and seven assists—in fourteen appearances for Reading.
Despite his recognition at the youth level, including being named in Nigeria's squad for the 2019 Africa U17 Cup of Nations, Akande did not feature prominently during the tournament, with other forwards preferred by manager Manu Garba.
Having emerged from the Chelsea academy, Akande aims to emulate the success of former Nigerian youth team invitee Ademola Ola-Adebomi, who previously secured the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award in November 2023.
