Ajayi of West Brom joins Osimhen, Chukwueze on injured Super Eagles

Nigeria's manager, Jose Peseiro, faces yet another setback as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November. This time, it's West Brom defender Semi Ajayi who has joined the list of injured Super Eagles players, following in the footsteps of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze.
Osimhen and Chukwueze, both members of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup-winning squad, appear to be unlikely to participate in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to their ongoing recovery from hamstring injuries.
As for SemI Ajayi, West Brom has refrained from specifying when he will return to action, but they have confirmed that the center-back has suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury that previously kept him out of the starting lineup for three consecutive matches before the international break.
This recurring issue prevented the Super Eagles star from being available for selection on Tuesday when West Brom secured a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship. Following the game, Baggies' manager Carlos Corberán provided an update on the team's fitness, revealing, "Semi Ajayi, during the last ten minutes of the Plymouth game, reaggravated his ankle injury, which is the same one he had before the international break."
Ajayi had played the full duration of Nigeria's 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia in a friendly held in Portugal on October 13 but did not see any minutes in the subsequent game against Mozambique.
