The in-form Super Eagles captain was caged on Sunday as struggling Akwa United FC defeated the visiting Kano Pillars FC 2-0 in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 6 fixtures.
The match was played at the iconic Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Akwa United FC, more determined to assert themselves in the match, had the first attempt as early as the 7th minute when Osoba Kabir cut inside and beat his marker, but he was fouled from behind.
The pacy winger, however, delivered a good free kick into the box, but the Kano Pillars goalkeeper, Idrissu, punched it away.
After 30 minutes of play without a goal, Akwa United FC's Seyi Oguntayo and Emmanuel James combined well to pick out Bala Reuben outside the box. He cut in and shot, but his effort went over the bar.
The Promise Keepers were forced to make an early substitution in the 38th minute as Charles Etim replaced the injured Emmanuel James.
Akwa United FC finally got the much-needed relief in the three minutes of added time in the first half (45+3) when Endurance Ebedebiri headed in a good cross from the left to give his team the long-sought lead.
Friday Apollos then doubled the lead with his first touch from Mubarak Said's delivery from a corner kick, marking his second goal in two consecutive games.
The match ended 2-0, with Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa failing to score for his team, Kano Pillars.
