Bendel Insurance Football Club has begun the final phase of their preparation for the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League, following a Grade B friendly match with Cynosure Football Club of Ebonyi State in Benin.
Captain Meyiwa Oritseweyimi converted a spot kick to give Insurance a deserved lead in the 35th minute of the thrilling encounter, while Goodluck Oniuksu equalized for the visitors from Ebonyi in the 55th minute.
The Grade B friendly match was the first among the high-profile friendlies lined up to fine-tune their readiness for the new football season, following their remarkable achievement in the recently concluded Governor Diri Douye Preseason Football Tournament, which ended on Sunday in Bayelsa State.
The Benin Arsenals secured the silver cup after a dramatic 7-6 penalty shootout loss against the host club, Bayelsa Utd. The game had ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time, with Meyiwa Oritseweyimi scoring the equalizer for the Benin Arsenals.
Upon returning from the Bayelsa preseason tournament, the Benin Arsenals went into a close camp on Wednesday to enable continuous bonding and blending of new players with experienced ones ahead of the August 31 kickoff date of the new season.
According to the fixtures released by the NPFL management body, Bendel Insurance FC will play at home against Rivers Utd in their first game of the season at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. The kickoff time is 4 p.m.
The management of Bendel Insurance Football Club, upon resuming from the last season's break, gave the coaching staff the go-ahead to recruit and acquire quality players to strengthen and solidify the team.
The Bendel Insurance management stated that the club will unveil about 10 new players for the 2024/25 football season next week.
