Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin has unveiled 18 new players as part of their recruitment to strengthen the team for the 2024/25 season and beyond.
This comes as the Benin Arsenals announced the departure of 13 former players.
In response to the exit of 13 regular players after the 2023/24 season, Bendel Insurance quickly brought in 18 new players. Among the new signees are former Enyimba midfielder James Oronsaye and striker Uche Collins, who were unveiled at the Bendel Insurance Secretariat.
Other additions include Kayode Oke from 3SC, goalkeeper Suleiman Solihu from Kwara Utd, Emmanuel Ugwu from Dakkada FC, Moses Ajiboye from Nasarawa Utd, Isaac Ajibola from Sporting Lagos, and striker Chinedu Onyinjekwe from Fame FC, Lagos.
Also joining the team are Uche Martins from Rangers, midfielder Jesse Kelechi from Crown FC, Nazir Mohammed from an academy, forward Stephen Bekewe from Bayelsa Utd, and Martin Owolija from Tornadoes, among others.
During the unveiling ceremony in Benin, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Olympian Yussuf Alli, urged the new players to remain disciplined and focused as they blend with the existing team members. He encouraged them to work together as a strong unit that can make the state proud.
The Sports Commission boss expressed confidence in Coach Monday Odigie and his team's ability to make headlines in the upcoming season. He also tasked the players with starting the season positively by beating Rivers Utd on Sunday.
Bendel Insurance FC is set to host Rivers Utd in their season opener on Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, with many of the new signings expected to feature. The match kicks off at 4 p.m.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 7, the match was rescheduled by the league management due to the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s CAF Nations Cup qualifier against Benin Republic on that day at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
Meanwhile, the Benin Arsenals have confirmed the departure of 13 players, many of whom helped win the 2023 Federation Cup, including stand-in captain and award-winning goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, who has signed with a club abroad.
The departing players include goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, defender Sunday Anyanwu, right-back Ebuka Akobundu, midfielder Kelly Oahaimije Kester, forward Paul Obata, forward Evans Ogbonda, striker Jude Ebhohon, striker Sarki Ismael, striker Chukwudi Meze, striker Chisom Okereke, striker Osaghae Junior, midfielder Wisdom Stephen, and midfielder Divine Nwanchukwu.
