In preparation for the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, Sporting Lagos Football Academy forced Prince Kazeem Eletu Football Academy to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, popularly known as Onikan Stadium.
The friendly match was one of the toughest games for the Eletu Boys in the new season. They almost secured victory before Abuchi Lawrence of Sporting Lagos equalized with a shot from the left wing in the 58th minute.
The encounter started brightly for the Eletu Boys, who were at their best against the visiting team.
Both teams created scoring chances but failed to convert them.
A good run from Jude Obasi on the right flank and a superb diagonal cross were converted by Imran Adebayo, giving the home side the lead in the 32nd minute.
Sporting Lagos, unable to penetrate the 18-yard box of Prince Kazeem Eletu in the first half, made several changes in the second half before finally getting their equalizer.
Speaking after the match, Sporting Lagos coach Theophilus Caleb expressed satisfaction with the intensity of the game and commended both teams for a job well done.
“It was a high-intensity match for us. Eletu gave us a serious fight, and I must commend them for their football display.
“I also commend my boys because they played to expectations, especially in the second half, as we had a better chance to win the game towards the end,” he said.
In his comments, Eletu coach Israel Adegolu stated that his boys quickly adapted to his tactical formation and praised them for showing resilience, especially in the second half.
“Of course, I need to commend my boys for their brilliant performance. They got it right today, and if we continue this way, we will become a formidable team in Lagos.
“Our opponents were also a good side; they made some changes in the second half, which helped them salvage a draw.
“If I may say, we did better, and I still expect more from my boys in our subsequent matches.”
Commenting on the match, team manager of the Eletu Boys, Eletu Muftau, admitted the toughness of the match, saying that they are ready to play more tough teams within and, if possible, outside the state.
“I am happy with the performance of our boys. Today, they proved to Lagos fans that Prince Kazeem Eletu Boys are back and better. Our performance against Sporting Lagos is commendable, and I am looking forward to facing tougher teams like this in the coming days,” he said.
