A certain 43-year-old Kano Pillars legend, Rabiu Ali, inspired Kano Pillars to a 3-0 rout of league debutants Ikorodu City FC on Sunday.
Veteran captain Rabiu Ali, who has spent 18 years as a professional player in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), scored in the 69th and 79th minutes of the match.
It was a disappointing experience for the travelers, Ikorodu City FC, who faced the four-time league champions, Sai Masu Gida, at the distant Umaru Dikko Stadium. The game was played away from Kano Pillars’ traditional home ground, Sani Abacha Stadium, due to ongoing renovations.
Despite the change in venue, the Usman Abdallah-tutored team was undeterred and went on the offensive against the visiting Ikorodu Boys.
Mustapha Umar opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, and the versatile and experienced Ali completed his brace with goals 10 minutes apart, in the 69th and 79th minutes.
