After Paratici's International Ban Was Extended, Tottenham Requests Urgent Clarity from FIFA
Posted : 12 April 2023
Following Fabio Paratici's international suspension on Wednesday, Tottenham's managing director of football announced they are "urgently seeking further explanation" from FIFA.
FIFA previously declared that it had made the global nature of the bans imposed on former and present Juventus officials, including Paratici, public.
A Serie A football court in Italy that was looking into the team's financial situation and transfer activities in January docked Juventus 15 points for the season. Several of the club's officials were also given lifetime bans from holding elected positions in Italian football by the court.
One of these was a 30-month suspension for former sports director Paratici, who joined Spurs in 2021 after serving at Juventus for 11 years.
"Following media reports today regarding the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decision to extend worldwide the sanction imposed by the FIGC Federal Court of Appeals on Fabio Paratici on 20 January 2023, the Club made urgent enquiries to FIFA," Tottenham said in a statement.
"This committee deliberation has been taken with no advance notice to any of the parties involved. We are urgently seeking further clarification from FIFA as to the details of the extension and its variance from the FIGC sanction."
Juventus has asserted that its accounting complied with industry norms and denied any misconduct. Additionally, they have filed an appeal against the judgment.
