AFL 2nd leg: Moroccan authorities deny Nigeria's representative, Enyimba Int'l aircraft landing for six hours
Posted : 24 October 2023
Saddled with the uphill task of canceling the 0-1 deficit against Wydad AC of Morocco in the second-leg quarter-final encounter of the maiden African Football League (AFL), the Moroccan authorities deployed ugly tactics to frustrate the Nigerian league champions.
As of past midnight on Monday, October 23, 2023, The People's Elephant were still stranded at Lagos Airport as Moroccan authorities failed to authorize the landing of a chartered aircraft from the International wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport.
The team, still optimistic about overturning the one-goal deficit at the Godswill International Stadium in Uyo, was forced to return after spending 6 hours and 30 minutes on the aircraft waiting for authorization to land from the Moroccan authorities.
The Enyimba management perceives these ugly antics as a deliberate plot by the Moroccan authorities and Wydad AC to frustrate Enyimba from having a smooth trip to honor the second-leg tie of the AFL quarter-final encounter.
The game is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Muhammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, Morocco, at 7 pm.
As of Tuesday, Enyimba and NFF officials were officially lodging complaints with CAF.
