The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that it has received over 5,000 media accreditation applications for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations. CAF stated on its official website on Saturday that the number of applications is 90% higher than those received for Cameroon in 2021. The media accreditation closed on Nov. 24.
It mentioned that more than 70 nationalities have applied to cover Africa's biggest event. The high demand has led CAF to implement quotas for all countries due to space constraints, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring fairness in allocation and implementation.
CAF aims to provide access for media and promote media freedom. New guidelines for non-rights holders will be introduced, and restrictions on filming and other activities will be enforced to protect the rights of media (TV) holders. Priority will be given to the host nation at 30%, participating countries at 35%, regional (neighboring) countries at 10%, and the rest of the world (countries) at 25%.
CAF is actively working with participating member associations to ensure fair representation in allocating quotas for each country. Priority will also be given to agencies. The 2023 AFCON is scheduled to kick off on Jan. 13, 2024, and run until Feb. 11 in Cote d'Ivoire, with 24 nations participating.
