Ademola Lookman, forward for the Super Eagles, has been named Atalanta's Player of the Month for May-June, according to the club's official website. Lookman's recognition was well-deserved following his exceptional performance in the Europa League final, where he made history as the first African player to score a hat-trick in a major UEFA competition.
The Charlton Athletic academy graduate solidified his standing by scoring in a rescheduled Serie A match against Fiorentina on June 2, thereby becoming the only player to reach double figures in goals during the 2023-2024 season.
As the standout performer in the Europa League final, Lookman contributed six goals and three assists throughout May and June. His overall season tally of 27 goal involvements (17 goals, 10 assists) surpassed his debut season achievements with Atalanta.
In clinching the Player of the Month accolade, Lookman outshone competition from Gianluca Scamacca and Éderson. However, on the international front, despite his efforts in playing full matches against South Africa and Benin in World Cup qualifiers, he did not replicate his club form, failing to score in either game.
Lookman's stellar performances have attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and Bundesliga, suggesting a potential return to these leagues in the future.
