The home side started the match positively and took the lead early, thanks to a 12th-minute header from De Ketelaere. Atalanta’s dominance in the opening stages set the tone for the rest of the match.
However, Milan responded quickly, leveling the score just 10 minutes later through a goal from Alvaro Morata. Despite being the more aggressive side in the first half, Atalanta was unable to regain the lead before the break.
The second half saw continued pressure from Atalanta, but they were thwarted by Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Lookman had two key chances in the 79th and 86th minutes, but Maignan came up with crucial saves to deny the Nigerian forward.
With time running out, Lookman’s persistence paid off in the 87th minute. He rose above the defenders to score a powerful header, giving Atalanta a 2-1 lead and ensuring all three points.
This victory not only gave Atalanta a hard-fought win but also marked their ninth consecutive Serie A victory, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 2020, according to Opta. Lookman’s last-minute heroics were a testament to his importance for the team.
