Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament: Solid Miners escape Ejike Ugboaja's unslaught

Posted : 13 August 2024

Midfield wizkid Sabo Gambo, veteran attacker Chinedu Ohanachom, and Nandom Emmanuel each registered their names on the scoresheet as Nasarawa United came from behind to thrash the hapless Abuja-based Ejike Ugboaja FC 3-1 in their opening match of Group 'A' at the 3rd edition of the Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament held at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Garki, Abuja.

In Monday's game, the Solid Miners went behind 14 minutes into the first half after goalkeeper Mohammed Galadima failed to deal with a powerful free-kick, spilling the ball into the path of the unmarked Solomon Akubo, who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net.

The Solid Miners rallied back before the half-hour mark through a beautifully struck free-kick by young sensation Sabo Gambo.

Both teams returned for the second half all squared.

But it was Nasarawa United who went ahead ten minutes after the restart when Chinedu Ohanachom poked home from close range following Awal Auta's dummy pass.

The Solid Miners increased the tally and ended any hopes of recovery for their opponents in the 87th minute as substitute Nandom Emmanuel scooped the ball off the shaky grasp of goalkeeper Canaan Sadiq to effortlessly tuck the ball into the back of the net.

3-1 was the full-time score as United began the Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament on a promising note.

Monday's result means Nasarawa United are leading the Group 'A' table with three points after Like Minds FC played out a 2-2 draw with Atlantic Integral FC in the earlier fixture.

The Coach Usman Adams-tutored wards will face Atlantic Integral FC of Suleja, Niger State, in their second match on Wednesday, 14th August 2024, at 8 o'clock in the morning at the same venue.Midfield wizkid, Sabo Gambo, veteran attacker, Chinedu Ohanachom, and Nandom Emmanuel each registered their names in the score sheet as Nasarawa United came from behind to thrash hapless Abuja-based Ejike Ugboaja FC 3-1 in their opening match of Group 'A' at the 3rd edition of the Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament holding at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Garki, Abuja.
