Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin (ABS) Football Club earned their first away point of the Nigeria National League (NNL) season with a 0-0 draw against Gateway United at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode on Saturday.
The Saraki Boys faced a tough challenge against a Gateway United side battling relegation. Despite the difficulties, ABS Ilorin FC's determination paid off as they secured a hard-fought draw in Ijebu Ode.
Coach Anthony Encho described the result as "difficult," acknowledging the challenges of playing a team fighting to avoid relegation. "Playing a team battling relegation is very tough," Encho said. "You have to work hard, knowing that your hosts have a 75% advantage with the home support."
Encho revealed that he had to change his tactics in the second half to secure the draw. "We needed to try to get a draw in the first half," he said. "We had some chances we didn’t take, so I had to change my tactics in the second half and play defensively. That's how we were able to get the one point."
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but ultimately unable to find the back of the net. ABS Ilorin FC's defensive solidity and determination were key factors in securing the draw.
Looking ahead to their next match, Coach Encho said, "The next game at home—I leave everything to God. He is the only one who can give us victory, but I believe that with hard work, we can get the needed results."
ABS Ilorin FC will take on First Bank in their home game next weekend.
