Abubakar Bukola Saraki, ABS Football Club of Ilorin, has reclaimed its spot in the second-tier league, the Nigeria National League (NNL), just weeks after losing the position during the NNL Relegation playoffs in Kano. Alongside regaining NNL status, ABS FC has introduced Danlamin Umar as its new technical head.
The club has unveiled plans to initiate a nationwide talent search, spanning all six geopolitical zones of the country.
Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, the Director of Football for ABS FC, explained during the unveiling of Danlamin Umar that the club's decision to return to professional status was driven by the desire to meet the expectations of their loyal fans. These fans believe that a prestigious club like ABS FC should not be competing in the amateur league.
Chukwuemeka reassured fans and the supporters' club that they would harness all available resources and support from the club's ownership to secure promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
"We have a mandate not only to maintain the club's professional status but also to mobilize all available resources and strategies to secure promotion to the elite league, the NPFL," stated the club's leader.
Furthermore, Chukwuemeka charged the new coach, Danlamin Umar, to work diligently to achieve the promotion goal. Umar expressed confidence that the club's promotion target was attainable and appealed for the support of football stakeholders to succeed in his mission. He also emphasized that Kwara State feels like his second home.
