Following a narrow loss to Kano Pillars over the weekend in Kano, Abia Warriors have geared up for their next challenge—the Oriental derby against Enugu Rangers.
Umu Chineke returned to Umuahia on Sunday and has intensified preparations ahead of the clash against the champions, Enugu Rangers.
This development was echoed by Abia Warriors center-back, Collins Nwoburuoke, who, while speaking with the club’s media, stated that the Warriors are ready for the Rangers challenge.
"We could be drained physically because of the journey, but not mentally. We know what we want as a team, and it's a derby, which is going to be tough. But trust me, the Warriors are prepared for battle."
Nwoburuoke also asserted that the Warriors’ defensive solidity at home will be crucial to the home side’s quest.
"Given Enugu Rangers' impressive form, Umu Chineke’s ability to maintain their defensive solidity at home will be crucial in determining the outcome of the match.
"If they can continue to shut out their opponents, they might just have a chance to upset the champions.
"But it won’t be an easy task, as Enugu Rangers will undoubtedly push hard to break down Umu Chineke’s defense, but we will have to keep it clean no matter the cost."
Abia Warriors are 5th on the league table, while Enugu Rangers are 3rd on the log. A win for Abia Warriors on Wednesday will see them leapfrog the reigning champions on the league table.
