Abia Warriors happy to be back at home, says management

Posted : 09 March 2024

After the organizers of the Nigeria Premier Football League provisionally approved Abia Warriors to resume playing their home games at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the Pride of Abia intensified their training ahead of the Week 24 encounter against table-toppers Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi.

However, the club management said the team was happy to return and witness cheers from their home fans.

The players and technical crew are in high spirits after beating high-flying Kano Pillars FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, in a Match Day 23 encounter. Abia Warriors' gaffer, Coach Bethel Oji, expressed confidence during his media parley that they would get the job done.

The match is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

In the injury update, Kelechi Nnochiri, the club's spokesperson, stated that he had recovered from the ankle injury that kept him out for some weeks, and he trained with the rest of the squad. However, goalkeeper Ali Ishaku is still out with a knee injury.

Head to head, Abia Warriors currently rank 9th, while Lobi Stars hold the 1st position in the 2023/2024 NPFL. Abia Warriors and Lobi Stars have played 15 games, with 7 wins for Abia Warriors and 3 ties.

Recall that Abia Warriors' FA Cup tie against Uchecaria FC of Aba, originally scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2024, has been moved to March 19, 2024, due to the Warriors' commitment in the league.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors Feeders defeated hard-fighting Preston FC of Aba 2-1 at the Ahudiyannem Stadium Abiriba, progressing to the next round.
