Posted : 28 September 2023
As Nigeria Premier Football League season kicks-off on Saturday, Sept. 30 across various centres, Abia Warriors players are looking forward to their season opener against Niger Tornadoes from Minna.

Recall that the league organisers had on Monday Sept. 25, through a letter by its Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owunmi, announced the commencement of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sept. 30 to the delight of Abia Warriors players and supporters.

Ahead of the season, the Chairman of the club Mr. John Obuh and the Sporting Director Mr. Emeka Ifejiagwa beefed up the playing staff with quality signings amongst whom are former Enyimba International FC and former Nigeria internationals Ifeanyi Anaemena and Ozor Philip Felix. The club retained the services of Nigeria Under-20 international Augustine Njoku, midfield maestro Emmanuel Onuh, experienced goal tender and Nigeria international Femi Thomas, former Super Eagles invitee Daniel Wotlai, Sampson Obi, Peter John among others.

According to Abia Warriors captain Goodluck Ozioma, the players are looking forward to their league opener.

"We are excited about the commencement of the league, even though the announcement came as a surprise, we are ready for the game on Saturday regardless.

"We played lots of friendly games and also won the Tico/Select Pre-season Tournament, that put us in good stead to compete in the league.

"We feel very happy because, we can't wait any longer. We have over prepared ourselves for the league and we are set to go."

The Skipper was also full of praises for the club's management team and also enjoined the club's fans to support the players on Saturday.

"I sincerely appreciate our Chairman Mr. John Obuh, and the Sporting Director Mr. Emeka Ifejiagwa for their support and fatherly role. We have seen lots of positive developments in the club and we are grateful to them.

"Our Technical Adviser Mr. Erasmus Onuh has been doing well, he is strict but fair. His relationship with the players has been top notch.

"We urge our fans to come out en masse on Saturday to watch the beautiful football we are going to play."

Abia Warriors welcome Niger Tornadoes this Saturday at the Umuahia Township Stadium for their league opener.
