Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia suffered their first defeat in the second half of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season when they were defeated by Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna in Kaduna.
A solitary goal from a corner kick by substitute Ikenna Offor in the 77th minute secured all three points for the home side.
Niger Tornadoes had the first opportunity in the 20th minute when Johnson Nmecha made a save from a 33-yard free-kick by the hosts.
Abia Warriors could have taken the lead in the 36th minute, but Godwin Udoh's effort was ruled offside after a beautiful exchange from the players.
The result leaves the Umuahia-based side still searching for their first away victory of the season and a second away draw.
In the 54th minute, Abia Warriors made three changes, with Samson Obi, Nwoburouke Collins, and Arinze Ogbonna replacing Megwo Sunday, Anaemena Ifeanyi, and Ojonugwa Adejoh, but the trio failed to make a significant impact.
Next up for the Umuahia Warriors is a home game against Kwara United in a Match Day 22 encounter.
