Abia Warriors compounds Lobi Stars FC woes in Umuahia

Posted : 27 March 2025

Two fantastic goals, one in each half, from Sunday Megwo and Anthony Ijoma gave Abia Warriors all three points in the Matchday 31 fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League season.

It was an entertaining game from the home side as the visitors battled to get something from the game but were undone by Abia Warriors' strike duo of Megwo and Ijoma.

Imama Amapakabo, the Warriors' gaffer, made only one change to the squad that beat Heartland FC in last weekend's fixture at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. Innocent Godwin replaced the suspended Emmanuel Ogbuagu.

The hosts nearly took the lead within the first minute at the Umuahia Township Stadium, but Ayodele Ezekiel's curling effort went narrowly wide.

With that warning, Lobi Stars became more adventurous but could not prevent Megwo from scoring his 10th league goal of the season in the 25th minute.

A good interchange of play from the Warriors saw Paul Samson beat his marker before squaring the ball for Megwo, who scored with a diving header.

The hosts maintained their lead until the end of the first half, and the restart saw them still controlling proceedings.

Lobi Stars tried to muster a comeback after making wholesale substitutions, but they were met by a strong Warriors side that refused to budge.

The hosts eventually capped a fine performance with a second goal when Anthony Ijoma received a pass from substitute Stanley Dimgba, around 33 yards out, and unleashed a ferocious shot that sailed into the back of the net in the second minute of added time.

The next fixture for the Warriors is an Oriental derby against rivals Enyimba International Football Club of Aba at the Enyimba International Stadium.
