The Chairman of Abia Warriors, Coach John Sam Obuh, has encouraged the member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe, to organize a U-17 Football Tournament in his constituency.
Obuh, the former Nigeria Under-17 and Under-20 Head Coach, made the appeal at the opening game of the Amassa Ntigha Unity Cup, upon the invitation of the Honorable Member of the Federal House of Representatives.
The Abia Warriors supremo thanked Onwusibe for the invitation and his passion for football development, pointing out that organizing a U-17 Football Tournament will help professional football clubs in the state scout young talents.
On his part, the Honourable Member, representing Isiala North and Isiala Ngwa South Constituency, Onwusibe, expressed his gratitude to Coach John Obuh and his management team for honoring his invitation.
"I want to thank especially the Chairman of Abia Warriors and his team. It was just this morning that I called them and asked them to come and witness the opening ceremony of this tournament.
"Not too long ago, they made me a patron of the club. I know what they saw before they chose me to become a patron. I thank them," he said.
The Abia Warriors Patron also assured Coach John Obuh of organizing the U-17 Football Tournament.
"Sports, especially football, is what people are making a living from. We know of the youth tournament you are telling us about, and we are also going to organize an Under-17 tournament, where we will invite you to come and scout our players."
The Amassa Ntigha Unity Cup is sponsored by Matthew C. Ekwuribe, the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Abia State.
The opening game was also graced by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Abia State, Nwaobilor Ananaba, among other dignitaries.
The competition is being played at the Amassa Ntigha Mini Stadium and Amapu Ntigha Mini Stadium, both of which were built by Ginger Onwusibe during his time at the State House of Assembly as a member.
Onwusibe also built three other mini stadia in Nbawsi, Nvosi, and Umuosu, making it a total of five stadia.
