2023/2024 NNL Match Day 1: Ekiti Utd FC wallops Abia Comets

It was a dramatic eight minutes for Abia Comets as they went down 3-0 within the period of play, with Ekiti United running riot on the away team in the league opener at Oluyemi Kayode Township Stadium, Ado Ekiti.
 
Ekiti United took the lead in the fourth minute, leaving Comets goalkeeper Ogoke Kingsley helpless. On the turf, he conceded the second and third goals within just four minutes, scored by Wadulu Ofoni and George Adedara, as the first half ended 3-0 in favor of the hosts.
 
In the second half, Coach Kevin Ejeh (Mourinho) tried to change the approach of the game with a couple of early substitutions before the restart of the second half, introducing Douglas Bueka, Ebuka Lazarus, and Chibueze Lambert to replace Arinze Njoku, Hyacinth Olieh, and Ogoke Kingsley.
 
However, they dominated the game with more ball possession, but it was not enough in the end as they suffered their first defeat of the season in a Southern Conference Group A opener.
 
Abia Comets will have to turn their focus to the next game as they travel back to Umuahia to commence preparation ahead of Matchday 2 at home against Beyond Limits on Saturday.
