A German third-tier match was called off after the referee gets poured alcohol

The referee was splashed in beer at halftime by an irate supporter, which resulted in the suspension of a third-tier game in Germany on Sunday.

The contest between Zwickau and Rot-Weiss, a team in danger of relegation Since a supporter threw a cup of beer in the face of referee Nicolas Winter after he had dismissed a Zwickau player and given Essen a penalty before the break, Essen did not proceed for the second half.

Nils Butzen of Zwickau was given the red card by Winter for pulling down American attacker Isaiah Young, and Essen was given a penalty for handball after the ensuing free kick.

Before leaving the field, the match officials waited while they assessed the situation.
