8th CHAN: Super Eagles B Intensify Preparations Ahead of Ghana Clash

Posted : 12 December 2024

The Super Eagles B thrashed G-12 FC 5-1 in a friendly match, intensifying their preparations for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) crucial qualifiers against Ghana's Black Galaxies.

The game, played at the stunning Remo Stars' Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, is part of Nigeria's preparations for the home-and-away qualifying fixture against the Black Galaxies of Ghana.

El-Kanemi Warriors' winger Al-Amin Umar opened the scoring for the home-based Super Eagles just a minute into the match, while Kano Pillars defender Nelson Abiam and Bendel Insurance captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi extended the lead to 3-0 in the 14th and 17th minutes with brilliant goals, assisted by Ikorodu City's midfielder Waliu Ojetoye. Oritseweyinmi's superb goal gave the CHAN Eagles a comfortable lead going into halftime.

In the second half, a beautiful pass from Nasarawa Utd striker Anas Yusuf found Abia Warriors' dangerous forward Sunday Megwo, who scored the fourth goal for Eagles B in the 51st minute. Megwo struck again in the 74th minute, with Ojetoye assisting to wrap up the victory, before G-12 FC managed to pull one back for a consolation goal.

Coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ikechukwu, who had earlier justified the selection of players from various NPFL clubs, stated that the team is taking good shape ahead of the first leg, which is scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 22.

Coach Ogunmodede assured Nigerians that things will be different in the upcoming game against Ghana's Black Galaxies. "Ghana has been Nigeria's nightmare in this competition in the past, but we are working hard to make a difference this time," he added.
