It was a 5-star performance from the defending champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Enyimba International FC, as they put five goals past the visiting Kano Pillars in the NPFL Match Day 28 played at Enyimba International stadium in Aba.
The Peoples Elephant had to put the Federation Cup loss to fellow Abia Warriors behind them to have an emphatic display towards defending the crown they won in Lagos last year.
Eze Ekwutoziam opened the floodgate of goals in the 13th minute with a simple tap-in, after which the leading goal scorer for the Peoples Elephant, Chijioke Mbaoma, perfectly rounded the keeper and slotted into the net to double the lead for the nine-time champions.
Joseph Atule made it a three-goal lead in the 44th minute as both teams went down the tunnel for the first-half break.
Upon the resumption of the second half, Enyimba International made two changes as Ekene Awazie and Eze Ekwutoziam came in for Ikenna Cooper and Bernard Ovoke.
However, it was Atule's show in the 69th minute as he scored his brace with finesse to make it four goals.
As the game neared its end in the 90+3rd minute of play, Enyimba International's Alade Muyiwa made it a five-goal thriller after a delightful pass from Izuogu Chibueze.
