The Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan, has expressed the club’s disappointment at the sudden decision to postpone the commencement of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
On the reasons for his reservations about the postponement, Mr Olaniyan revealed that the Executive Governor of Oyo State was billed as the special guest for the opening game of the season between 3SC and visiting Plateau United of Jos.
He further said: “To be sincere, we were ready and I believe our opponents are also ready because I learnt they had gotten to Abuja from Jos before getting the information and since then there was no update.”
Hon. Olaniyan said the team would continue to build on the progress of the two preseason tournaments they participated in, saying the club has all it takes to start the season.
He also said some of the players have signed performance based contracts to increase the hunger of these players.
The Chairman re-echoed the desire of the state Governor to see the club playing on the continent and this has now informed the decision to give the coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, a target of picking one of the continental tickets.
