Posted : 02 January 2025

Arrays of football stars are expected to be on parade to showcase their talents at the 3rd edition of the annual Ibrahim Galadima Cup, which kicks off on January 4, 2025, at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, by 4 p.m.

The football tournament is organized annually to celebrate the former chairman of the now-defunct Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Ibrahim Galadima, and to applaud his sacrifices and contributions towards the development of sports in Africa’s largest footballing nation.

The Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for the competition, Ado Salisu, disclosed that 16 teams would compete in groups A, B, C, and D.

Ado hinted that prominent clubs enlisted in the chase for glory in this year’s edition include Proline FC, Clever Warriors, Azhuba FC, Kano Pillars FC (Junior), Super Stars Sheka, and Kwankwasiyya FC.

According to him, the usual fanfare that distinguishes the competition will be sustained, adding that clubs from outside Kano’s jurisdiction will participate in this year’s edition.

He said VAR facilities would be deployed to help officiating officials make fair decisions, noting that these gadgets would enable the free flow of matches.

In his words: “All the features that made the tournament a memorable event will be sustained. Aside from the prizes, to add competitive value to the chain, we will have Tiger FC from Funtua, Katsina State, taking part in this new edition.”

Ado added: “Super Stars Sheka will lock horns against Clever Warriors in a highly anticipated and thrilling opener on January 4 at Sani Abacha Stadium.”

Prominent football personalities expected to witness the grand opener include the incumbent president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau; Makaman Bichi, Isiyaku Umar Tofa; former president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) and Commissioner of Information, Kano State, Halilu Baba Dantiye; Chairman of the Kano State Football Association (KSFA), Sherif Rabiu Inuwa; among others.
