28 members of Bayelsa United FC, petition IMC over unpaid sign-on fees

Posted : 16 April 2023
28 members of the 2014/2015 Bayelsa United FC have petitioned the Interim Management Committee, (IMC), organusers of the Nigeria proffessional football league NPFL, on the need to impress it on the Bayelsa State government, to pay all their outstanding sign-on fees.

On this list are players and officials of the team, majority of whom have left the club while a few others, have either stopped playing due to career ending injuries, age or life threatening ailments.

In the one paged petition dated April 7, 2023, the players want the IMC to use their good office to appeal to the Bayelsa State government to pay all their outstanding sign-on fees.

They noted that all previous efforts at getting the attention of the state government through letters, phone calls and news publications, have not been successful.

The petition reads;

``Permit us to use this medium to introduce ourselves.

``We are players and officials of the Bayelsa United team that participated in the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional football league, NPFL.

``We all joined Bayelsa United from different clubs and signed contracts with the clubs.

``Unfortunately, our sign-on fees, as agreed in the contracts we signed with the club have not been paid since joining,'' the petition reads.

It continues: Majority of us have moved on to other clubs, while a few others have since retired due to injury, sickness, age or lack of motivation to continue.

``Presently, two of our colleagues from that 2014/2015 team are lying down in hospital, critically sick and in need of financial assistance to take care of their medical bills.

``It is because of this and many other reasons, that we have decided to petition the IMC, to use your good office to appeal to the Bayelsa state government to pay us all our outstanding sign-on fees as listed below.
