Rev. Sam Ikpea, the President of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), on Wednesday called for total support for the newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, in his quest to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup.
Ikpea made the call in an exclusive interview while sharing his expectations for the World Cup qualifiers between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The Super Eagles will confront the Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday at 8 p.m.
The Supporters Club Chairman called on all Nigerians to rally behind George, adding that it would be in the interest of all.
"Our expectations are high as we approach the World Cup qualifiers between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana of South Africa because it is a crucial game, a must-win for us.
"We defeated them (Bafana Bafana) the last time we met during AFCON, and we expect to defeat them again.
"The only new thing is that we have a new coach, Finidi George. So far, he is managing the Super Eagles officially in his first competitive match.
"We want to appeal to every Nigerian to rally around George and give him the best support, as we will do, and wait for the first game to end."
Ikpea noted that George has started well with his policy of including home-based stars in the team.
"The good thing that the new man, George, did was the invitation to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players; this is well commendable.
"The home-based stars in the team will want to fight for a place in the team and also impress, which will make it more competitive.
"The NPFL stars will also want to give their best because they are hungry for a place in the team.
"For us, we will make sure that the team does not lack support going into the game and after. This is what we are known for and what we will continue to do," he said.
