The Lagos State Federation Cup female category now has new champions after 14 years, as Unification Ladies FC defeated FC Robo via penalties in a thrilling final.
The semifinal match was an upset that many pundits did not see coming, as the non-league side, Unification Ladies, broke FC Robo’s 14-year dominance in the LSFA Federation Cup, securing a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout victory after a tense goalless draw.
The monumental upset comes just a year after Unification Ladies suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat to the same opponents at this stage of the tournament. But this time, they rewrote the script with a masterclass in resilience and preparation.
“This victory is a result of hard work and learning from our past mistakes,” said Prince Oyekan, praising the team’s dedication.
The club’s director also expressed immense pride in their progress, calling it a defining moment for the squad.
This result not only marks the end of an era for FC Robo but also signals a seismic shift in the landscape of Lagos women’s football. Could this be the dawn of a new powerhouse?
