Following a 2-2 draw away to Sunshine Stars on NPFL Match Day 29 in Ikenne, Plateau United faced off once again with the Akure Gunners in the President Federation Cup Round of 32.
The match remained competitive on both ends with little space to exploit in the opening 16 minutes until Victor Dawa’s thunderous shot threatened.
Minutes later, the Peace Boys launched a counterattack following some tricky moments, with Vincent Temitope driving in fiercely to dispatch a left-footed low shot, sealing the opener after 21 minutes.
Sunshine Stars responded with various forms of aggression from Stephen Chukwude, Waheed Adebayo, and Liman Ahmadu, but the Peace Boys remained defensively resolute and technically adept, dominating possession.
The Peace Boys faced a nervy ending, including Ismail’s 76th-minute miss, Promise Awosanmi's attempt that struck the woodwork, and Ahmed Umar Farouk's sublime goal-bound clearance, capping off a highly competitive but rewarding fixture for Plateau United FC, who now advance to the last 16 of the competition.
Following this win, Mbwas Mangut's lads will now shift focus to Sunday’s NPFL Match Day 32 schedule against Kwara United in Jos, with the intent to extend their unbeaten run to seven consecutive games. The exciting Vincent Temitope once again showed his ability to score against his former club, having netted previously in Jos on Match Day 9, in Ikenne on Match Day 29, and now in the President Federation Cup Round of 32 at Anyingba.
