2025 President Federation Cup: Plateau United FC scrap past stubborn Ahudiya Nnem

The contest commenced with a battle of physicality, with the Peace Boys struggling to contend with the opposition’s level of intensity. This situation earned the opposition 5 yellow cards as the first half came to a close.


A tense moment occurred when a combination play into the Peace Boys’ area led to an attempt by Boniface Emeka to shoot. The ball hit Plateau United's defender in the arm, resulting in a penalty awarded to the Eastern opposition.


Ahudiya Nnem’s Godwin Samuel seized the opportunity, beating Adewale Adeyinka to convert the penalty, handing his side a 1-0 lead heading into the break.


The Peace Boys looked desperate to equalize in the second half, but nervy moments, including Ijeoma Maxwell hitting the woodwork, looked like it might put the Abariba-based side 2-0 ahead.


Plateau United benefited from a few substitutions, with Vincent Temitope, Charles Henlong, Kalu Samuel, and Gift Osadebe coming on at different points to positively impact the game.


A number of threatening chances were created by the Peace Boys, coming very close several times, but goal conversion remained elusive.


As the combination play improved, Kalu Samuel was brought down in the opposition's penalty area, resulting in a penalty.


Vincent Temitope stepped up and converted, leveling the score at 1-1 as the game entered its final moments.


With less than seven minutes to go, Daniel Itodo delivered a sublime throw-in into the opposition’s area, and Sunday Anthony rose like a Colossus to nod the ball in, securing a 1-2 victory for the Peace Boys in the dying moments of the game.


On their way to representing Abia State in the President Federation Cup, Ahudiya Nnem had eliminated Abia Warriors in the state semifinals and also defeated Enyimba International via penalty shootouts to win the Abia State title.


After a 2-2 draw away to Sunshine Stars on NPFL Match Day 29 in Ikenne, the Peace Boys will now focus on Saturday’s crucial NPFL Match Day 30 encounter against Kano Pillars FC in Jos.


Meanwhile, Plateau United will await the official announcement of their opponent in the last 32 of the ongoing President Federation Cup.
