2025 President Federation Cup: NNL side, Beyond Limits, sends Rivers United FC packing

Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Beyond Limits of Ikenne, have sent Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) team Rivers United FC packing from the 2025 President Federation Cup, courtesy of a 2-1 victory.


Beyond Limits, an academy team of NPFL side Remo Stars FC, delivered the biggest shock as Akinocho Merveille scored a brace, while an own goal gave the Pride of Rivers their only goal in this high-tension match.


The academy boys took the lead in the 16th minute when Merveille fired home the opener. They doubled their advantage shortly after the break in the 51st minute, with Merveille once again finding the back of the net.


Rivers United, who made three substitutions before the second half in a bid to turn the tide, managed a late response through an own goal in the 67th minute.


Despite the tense finale, Finidi George’s side could not find an equalizer, and their FA Cup journey came to an abrupt end.


It’s worth recalling that Beyond Limits earned promotion to the NPFL during the 2023/2024 NNL season but eventually had to relinquish their NPFL spot to Heartland International FC due to the fact that Beyond Limits’ sister club, Remo Stars, was already playing in the NPFL.


However, the game, decided at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, saw the NNL side overcome the Pride of Rivers in exciting fashion.
