Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan walked over Zamfara United in the 2025 President Federation Cup after the latter failed to show up.
The Ibadan soccer lords would have secured a ticket to the Round of 32 on Wednesday without kicking a ball, following Zamfara United FC’s failure to appear for the Round of 64 fixture at the Area 3 Field, Abuja—were it not for the controversy surrounding the fielding of ineligible players.
Referee Anthony Eze led the match officials in performing the walkover rites, declaring the game over after the mandatory 15-minute waiting period.
However, the Oluyole Warriors were shockingly disqualified from the 2025 President Federation Cup for fielding players with forged licenses.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the disqualification in a letter signed by the Director of Competitions, Ruth David.
The letter revealed that five Shooting Stars players had not been properly registered with the NFF and had instead used forged licenses to participate in the competition.
These players were part of the squad that was set to face Zamfara United in the Round of 64 match at the Area 3 Field, Abuja.
As a result, Shooting Stars have been expelled from Nigeria’s oldest football competition.
The letter, signed on behalf of the NFF General Secretary, stated:
“It has come to our attention that your club fielded five (5) ineligible players who are not registered with the NFF for this edition of the competition.”
The ineligible players identified were:
Samuel Okon (Jersey No. 21)
Sodiq Ibrahim (Jersey No. 27)
Ephraim Nwachukwu (Jersey No. 20)
Nonso Nzediegwu (Jersey No. 23)
Ukeme Williams (Jersey No. 5)
The NFF letter emphasized that the use of forged licenses was the reason behind the club’s immediate disqualification from the prestigious tournament.
