Akwa United Football Club has advanced to the last four of the 2025 Akwa Ibom State President Federation Cup competition following a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Pillars Investors Football Academy at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Striker Chijioke Alaekwe gave the Promise Keepers an early lead when he headed home Chisom Orji's delivery from a corner kick in the 3rd minute of the game.
The non-league team leveled the score in the 19th minute, also from a corner delivery.
Akwa United dominated play and pushed forward to increase their advantage, but their numerous efforts on goal were unsuccessful, as both teams ended the first half on even terms.
Coach Kennedy Boboye made three changes at halftime: strikers Emmanuel Ini and Friday Apollos, as well as midfielder Auwal Ibrahim, were introduced to replace Uche Sabastine, Osoba Kabir, and Tochukwu Samuel.
Moments later, two substitutes, Auwal Ibrahim and Emmanuel Ini, linked up neatly for the latter to put his team in the lead.
With time winding down, left-back Paschal Onunze's low cross into the vital area was turned into the net by a defending player, as Akwa United put the game beyond their opponents to secure a place in the last four.
With the win, Akwa United will face Nigeria National League side Godswill Akpabio United FC in the semifinal later this month for a place in the final, where the two finalists will represent the state at the national tournament.
