Zali Abdullahi, Enyimba FC goalkeeper, has expressed optimism that his team will win the President's Cup encounter against the amateur club, Elshama FC of Gombe, scheduled for the Lafia City Stadium.
Abdullahi, expressing his optimism in Aba, said that the team would approach the game with the seriousness it deserved in order to avoid complacency.
“We want to reclaim the prestigious trophy this season.”
The match between NPFL giants Enyimba and Elshama marks the first-ever meeting between both sides in all competitions.
Abdullahi, who serves as an assistant to the first-choice goalkeeper, Ani Ozoemena, said that Enyimba would not underrate their opponents despite their lower division status.
“Yes, regarding the Federation Cup, we will not take any game for granted.
“We will treat every game as if we are playing a league match and a final match.”
According to Abdullahi, the experience gained while playing with Doma FC of Gombe would see him through the encounter.
“I have been in Gombe for three years, I know how they play, and we will take them seriously because it will not be as easy as people think.
“We know they will be at their best when they hear the name Enyimba, but the ball is in our court to decide.
“We will play them as if we are playing in the final, and we promise our fans that this year will not be like the previous one.
“Enyimba will be in the final of this year’s Federation/President’s Cup, and we will emerge champions,” Abdullahi said.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 8 a.m. at the Lafia Township Stadium.
