A total of 28 rookie football teams will begin hostilities in the first round of the Lagos State Challenge Cup, popularly known as the Lagos FA Cup.
The much-anticipated biggest football tournament in the state will commence on January 22, 2025, across designated centers.
A total of 80 teams have registered for the men's category, while four teams will feature in the women's category.
In the draws made at the LSFA secretariat, the 28 rookie teams will first play against each other in the first round.
The opening match will be between Kakawa FC and Royalty FC, with Diadem Stallion FC tackling Arubinjaga FC, and Dijon FA facing Burns Boys.
Other matches include Prince Kazeem Eletu FC against Innovator FC, Hephzibah FC facing Fackson Tofida FC, Vido FC confronting Ibeju Lekki United FC, Seamoriow FC taking on Swift FC, and Ona-Ara FC meeting Ikorodu City FA.
FC Middlewell will face Seamoriow FA, China Sun Stars will play FC Gemstone, Oba’s FA will tackle Okaka Academy, Great Height will battle Unification FC, L City will confront Orin FC, and Millennium Family FC will face Osykay FC in the last rookie matches.
Addressing the draw conference, Vice Chairman of LSFA, Adedotun Coker, stated that this year’s edition would be better in terms of organization and officiating, and urged participants to always abide by the rules governing the game.
Some of the participants who spoke to our correspondent expressed satisfaction with the draws and urged the organizers to ensure that all teams have a level playing field throughout the tournament.
