Nasarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia continued their fairytale run on matchday 4 of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, as strikes from Ojiyovwi Kesiena and Akekeromowei Janet secured a vital home win against visiting Ekiti Queens Football Club of Ado Ekiti at the Lafia City Stadium.
The match began at a high tempo, with both sides pushing to take control, but the first half ended goalless.
At the start of the second half, Nasarawa Amazons broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute through Ojiyovwi Kesiena. Two minutes later, their hardworking, tactical, and powerful striker, Janet Akekeromowei—who had been on a goal drought—added the second goal in the 64th minute, making it 2-0 for the Lafia Landladies.
In the remaining minutes, Nasarawa Amazons displayed a strong defensive performance to withstand the attacking pressure from their opponents as the game neared its conclusion.
With this victory, Coach Christopher Danjuma’s side demonstrated their strength and resilience, excelling both in attack and defense to secure yet another important win. They now top the NWFL Premiership 25 with 9 points, keeping their hopes of securing a Super Six spot alive.
Christopher Danjuma Musa acknowledged the league’s growth and competition, stating:
"We came into the second half to push, and we got the goals. We are working on team cohesion and rhythm."
Nasarawa Amazons will now travel to Benin, Edo State, for their next NWFL Premiership 25 match against Edo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
