2025 NWFL Match Day 4: Matthew confident of Heartland Queens’ revival at Remo Stars Ladies' clash

Posted : 04 February 2025

Heartland Queens’ midfield maestro, Monica Matthew, has sent out heartwarming messages to the teeming fans, assuring them of the team’s readiness to turn the season's fortunes around for the better when they face Remo Stars Ladies in a crucial NWFL Premiership matchday 4 game on Wednesday, February 5, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Despite a poor start to the season — securing just one point from a possible nine — the Owerri landladies are determined to bounce back to winning ways, and Matthew believes the anticipated resurgence will begin against the high-flying Sky Blue Ladies, who have already amassed an impressive seven points from three matches.

Speaking ahead of the showdown, Matthew emphasized that Heartland Queens are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations, stating that the team is fully focused on getting maximum points in Ikenne.

"Despite the poor results, I strongly believe that the league is a marathon, and I’m confident we will bounce back to winning ways, starting with the encounter in Ikenne.

"We have worked so hard in training, and I trust in God that we will return to Owerri victorious this time around. My teammates and I are fully committed to the fight, and we are putting in the necessary hard work to ensure we get the result after 90 minutes,” Matthew declared.

The midfield dynamo has been a standout performer for the Owerri side in the three-week-old topflight, scoring their only goal of the season so far in the 1-2 loss to the champions, Edo Queens. Her leadership and playmaking abilities will be vital as the team seeks to start climbing out from their current seventh-place position and reignite their campaign.

With the stage set for a fierce battle in Ikenne, Matthew remains unwavering in her belief that Heartland Queens have what it takes to secure their first victory of the season.

"I strongly believe that we have all it takes to get the full points at stake in the Ikenne showdown, at least to join the elite league of teams with a victory in the ongoing season," she enthused.

Fans will be hoping that her uplifting words translate into positive action when the whistle blows on matchday on Wednesday in Ikenne.
