2025 Morocco: Osimhen, Boniface, 8 others, storm Abidjan for Benin clash

Posted : 12 November 2024

The number of Super Eagles invitees for the grudge match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Republic of Benin has continued to swell with the arrival of Europe's hottest striker, Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and others.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play against the Republic of Benin on Thursday in a match where they only need a point to ensure safe passage, having already qualified for the tournament with two games to spare.

Nigeria currently tops the standings with 10 points, having gained three points without playing after the abandoned fourth match against Libya.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Libya three points and imposed other sanctions over their ill-treatment of the Super Eagles in Libya.

Now faced with a dead rubber match, the Super Eagles need to prove a point, having been beaten by the same Republic of Benin in the World Cup qualifiers on June 10 when former coach Rohr stunned them with a 2-1 victory at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Bearing in mind the importance of sweet revenge, the players have started arriving at the camp from Monday.

Among those in camp as of Tuesday afternoon is Nigeria's red-hot striker and brace hero for Galatasaray in Turkey’s last league match, Victor Osimhen.

Others already in camp include Victor Boniface, William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Alhassan Yusuf, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Collins.

The latest arrivals have added to the list of players already in camp, bringing the total number to 21.

Those already in camp include home-based players Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Moses Simon, Bruno Onyemaechi, Samuel Chukwueze, Gabriel Osho, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
