2025/2026 NPFL Season to Kick Off August 22

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will kick off its 2025/2026 season on Friday, August 22, as announced by NPFL Chairman and Second Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye.

Speaking at the NFF headquarters in Abuja, Elegbeleye emphasized that the chosen date is a strategic move aimed at aligning Nigeria’s domestic football calendar with continental and international competitions, in line with best practices across Africa.

“This step reflects our commitment to providing consistency, professionalism, and competitive readiness for our clubs as they participate in both local and continental tournaments,” he said.

The upcoming season will see the return of the full 20-club format, following a successful 2024/25 campaign that concluded with Remo Stars lifting the title in May.

Further details — including the season fixtures, broadcast partnerships, and player registration deadlines, are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

This announcement is seen as a major milestone in Nigerian football administration, giving clubs, players, sponsors, and fans a defined timeline to plan ahead for what promises to be a thrilling and more structured league season.
