2024 Valuejet Preseason Tournament gets 300% increment in prize money

The organizers of the annual ValueJet Preseason Tournament on Friday announced an increment of about 300 percent in total prize money to be won by the winners.


The announcement was made in a statement by the Chairman of the ValueJet Cup, Otunba Tade Azeez, who confirmed the prize money for this 2024 edition of the off-season football tournament.


Azeez also added that the 2024 ValueJet Cup will kick off on July 24th, with the grand finale scheduled for July 31st at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State.


"Eight top-flight clubs from Nigeria and Sudan will take part in this year's edition," he said.


Tade, the chairman of the prestigious football tournament, mentioned that since it was designed to support clubs preparing for the new continental and domestic league season, there should be a significant increase in the prize money.


“Our objective is to create a top-level tournament for clubs preparing for their CAF games and league season. 


"We are also injecting funds into the tournament and have sustained the policy of increasing prize money every season.


"The pool for this year's prize money is up to N16 million, about a 300 percent increment in the prize and participation money. 


“We want to appreciate our premium and title sponsor, ValueJet Airline, for supporting our vision and objective. We have recorded a lot of positive post-tournament stories from the clubs and players,” said Azeez.


The winner of this year’s tournament will cart home N5 million, while last season’s winning prize was N2 million.


The runners-up prize money has been increased from N1.5 million to N2.5 million.


"However, there will be a 100 percent increment in the participation fees for the clubs," Tade concluded.
