The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Niger Tornadoes of Minna, will battle NLO side Like-Minds FC of Gwagwalada, Abuja, in the final of the 2024 Unity Preseason Tournament on Sunday, which is being held in Abuja.
To qualify for the final match, scheduled to take place at the Area 3 playing pitch in Garki, Abuja, Like-Minds FC overcame a non-league team, 2K-19, in the semi-finals.
Two first-half goals by Tochukwu Adibe and Edvardo were all that the Gwagwalada boys needed to take the lead into the interval.
The 2K-19 team managed to pull one goal back at the beginning of the second half through Solomon Abraham.
Lucky Ojukwu then scored a third goal for the Gwagwalada team before Ofezie ThankGod added a second goal for the Ifeanyi Ubah-led team.
In the second match, which was an all-NPFL affair, Niger Tornadoes of Minna scored the opening goal in the 16th minute through Michael Okenwa. Terdoo Shimagande equalized for Nasarawa United in the 39th minute. The match ended 1-1.
In the subsequent penalty shootout, Niger Tornadoes converted all three of their penalties, while Nasarawa United missed all three.
The highlight of the final match will be the investiture of Barrister Isaac Danladi, the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Sports Ministry, as the Patron of the Tournament.
