Heartland Queens took an early lead in the 16th minute when Emmanuella James displayed her clinical finishing skills. A well-timed pass from the midfield found James, who expertly slotted the ball past Bayelsa Queens’ goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu, igniting the Owerri side’s charge. The early goal sent Heartland Queens' supporters into a frenzy, as their team looked poised to dominate.

However, the Prosperity Girls responded almost immediately, equalizing in the 17th minute through a controversial goalmouth scramble. Amid a chaotic sequence in Heartland’s penalty area, Bayelsa Queens capitalized on the confusion to find the back of the net. Heartland Queens protested vehemently, arguing that there was an infringement in the build-up, but the referee stood firm, allowing the goal to stand.

The first half was filled with relentless action, as Heartland goalkeeper Amarachi Atulayo endured several knocks while commanding her area. Despite the early setback, Heartland Queens applied relentless pressure on Bayelsa’s backline. Captain Chimebere Opara, alongside Oluchi Okwara, Emmanuella James, and Monica Matthew, led the charge, forcing Bayelsa’s goalkeeper Echefu into a string of remarkable saves.

The second half saw Heartland Queens intensify their efforts in search of a winner. Their attacking play created several golden opportunities, including a missed sitter by Okwara inside the box. Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, the Owerri side could not break the deadlock.

In a bold tactical move, Heartland Queens’ coach Obi Ogbala substituted Chizoba Johnson for Nnenna Williams to inject fresh energy into the attack. The substitution nearly paid off, as Williams’ pace and creativity troubled Bayelsa’s defense.

However, Bayelsa Queens held firm, with goalkeeper Echefu delivering a Woman of the Match (WOTM) performance, repeatedly denying Heartland Queens.

The draw leaves Bayelsa Queens atop Group A with seven points, while Heartland Queens sit second with five points.

Heartland Queens now face a must-win situation in their final group fixture against the host team, Naija Ratels, while Bayelsa Queens will aim to maintain their lead against Nazareth Ladies.

Both teams remain strong contenders for the trophy, with their performances lighting up the competition.
