Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure will face Delta Queens in the women’s quarterfinals of the 2024 President Federation Cup (PFC) tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, at 1 pm.
Both teams were in the same Group B in the recently concluded 2023/24 abridged Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
Delta Queens defeated Sunshine Queens 3-2 in the first leg of the league at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Delta State, while Sunshine Queens defeated them 2-1 in the return fixture in Akure.
Some fans of the club who spoke in Akure, the state capital, wished the 2015 Federation Cup winners success in the encounter.
Taiwo Akinloye said the team has what it takes to defeat their opponent in the quarterfinal, adding that he always watches their training at the sports complex in Akure.
He said the players should go all out to conquer their opponent, saying they have done it before and that they can do it again.
Taju Ilemobade said he looks beyond the President Federation Cup quarterfinal, and while he wishes them success in the game, he pleads with the Ondo State government and the management of the team to ensure the current players are retained.
“They have very young players and I see them becoming champions of the NWFL in the future.”
Nasarawa Amazons will also face Remo Stars Ladies at Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, at 4 pm.
Meanwhile, Naija Ratels will be up against FC Robo in Asaba at 4 pm, while Osun Babes will play against Rivers Angels in Enugu at 4 pm.
