Following nearly three weeks of no competitive action across the country, the Peace Boys returned to the field yet again, but this time in the President Federation Cup round of 32 playoffs against fellow NPFL campaigners, Sunshine Stars of Akure in Abuja.
A fixture that provided former Plateau United Technical Adviser, Kennedy Boboye, an opportunity to pit camp against Plateau United's Mbwas Mangut yet again.
The relatively cagey affair saw spells of domination by the Peace Boys, who dictated play for periods and made goal-scoring attempts that threatened the opposition.
Following a goalless first half, it was Plateau United's Muhammad Umar who pounced on a defensive lapse from the Sunshine defense to slot in the game's opening goal.
A lead the Peace Boys held up until the referee vetoed a four-minute additional time, but a moment of defensive lapse beyond the approved timing gifted Taiwo Rafiu a tuck-in opportunity to level scores at one all and pave the way for the lottery of penalties after 1-1 in regulation time.
Noteworthy in the penalties was Bamidele Adeniyi's valiant save of two spot-kicks, but the Peace Boys' inability to capitalize gifted the Akure gunners a 4-2 victory after penalties.
For other results, current holders, Bendel Insurance, crashed to a 2-0 defeat to Wikki Tourists, Kano Pillars pipped Doma United 1-0, while Enyimba International of Aba squeezed past FC One Rocket to reach the last sixteen.
Up next for the Peace Boys is a home game on NPFL Match Day 33 against the resurging Niger Tornadoes in Jos.
